Dr Stephen Wilson

Dr. Stephen Wilson is a Professor and Director of the Division of Dentistry at Cincinnati Children’s Hospital Medical Center.  Dr. Wilson received his dental degree (D.M.D.) and Doctorate in Physiology Ph.D.) at the University of Louisville in Louisville, Kentucky.  His residency training in Pediatric Dentistry was done at the University of Louisville and Kosair-Children’s Hospital.  Dr. Wilson also has a Master’s degree (M.A.) in Psychology that, along with his Bachelor of Science (B.S.), was obtained from Eastern Illinois University. 

Dr. Wilson is a board-certified pediatric dentist and a Diplomate of the American Board of Pediatric Dentistry.  He has served as a Director of the American Board of Pediatric Dentistry and as President of the American Board of Pediatric Dentistry (2003-2004).  He is the current Director of the AAPD-sponsored Sedation Course which is presented twice  year.   He has published over 95 papers and spoken at numerous local, national, and international meetings. 

Dr. Wilson’s research interests include child behavior in the dental clinic, conscious sedation for children, and electronic monitoring during sedation.


Dr. Monika Daubländer

Dr. Dr. Monika Daublaender is consultant oral surgeon and lecturer in oral surgery and pain management at the University medical centre in Mainz (Germany).

After studying medicine and dentistry in Germany and Switzerland and receiving her medical and dental degree she qualified as an oral and maxillo facial surgeon in 1988 and 1990 and finished specialty training in pain management in 2000.

In the same year she finished also her habilitation treatise on local anaesthesia and got the scientist award of the German society of Dental, Oral and Craniomandibular Sciences. She is President of the German Association for Dental Anaesthesia and Past President of EFAAD.

She has published approximately 80 scientific papers and participated in numerous national and international meetings.

Dr John Meechan

John Meechan is Senior Lecturer and honorary consultant in Oral Surgery at Newcastle University, United Kingdom.

He qualified in Glasgow with a BSc in 1974 and BDS in 1977. He has Fellowships in Dental Surgery from the Royal Colleges of Edinburgh and Glasgow.  He was awarded a PhD from Newcastle University in 1989. He has worked in general dental practice in Scotland and South Wales, held hospital positions in Glasgow and Newcastle, and University positions in Vancouver and Newcastle.

John has published over 130 papers and authored 7 books. He chairs the dental injection systems working group of the International Standards Organisation. He is a past President of the Pharmacology, Therapeutics and Toxicology and Dental Anesthesiology groups of the International Association for Dental Research.

He is the recipient of a Distinguished Scientist Award from the IADR and a King James IV Professorship from the Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh.

Dr Ken Harrison

Dr Ken Harrison is a consultant anaesthetist in Sydney at Westmead and Liverpool Hospitals and is a senior clinical lecturer with Sydney University.

He is also a senior retrievalist the manager of Education and Disasters with Careflight and is one of the deputy directors of the Medical Retrieval Unit of the ASNSW.

He has a strong interest in Education, is completing a Masters of Education and has an extensive educational portfolio across anaesthesia, trauma, simulation and disasters.

He has been involved with the Graduate Diploma in Clinical Dentistry (Conscious Sedation and Pain Control) at Sydney University since 1999 and has a major role in teaching and simulation on this course.
