Workshops 


Three workshops (see below) are available on Wednesday 14 October.  Delegates attending the IFDAS Congress receive a discount if they book to attend the Workshops.  It is possible to attend ONLY the Workshop on Wednesday and NOT attend the IFDAS Congress, the higher registration rate applies.

 

The fees to participate in each workshop are:

IFDAS Congress delegates

-  $450.00 (incl. GST) full day workshops presented by Dr Jim Auld and Dr Ken Harrison

-  $225.00 (inc. GST) half day workshop presented by Lijue (Rachel) Ma

Non IFDAS Congress delegates                              

- $550.00 (Incl. GST) full day workshops presented by Dr Jim Auld and Dr Ken Harrison
- $250.00 (incl. GST) half day workshop presented by Lijue (Rachel) Ma


Workshop fees include morning and afternoon refreshments and lunch. 

All workshops will be limited to 30 participants.

The Workshop run by Dr Ken Harrison will also run DURING the Congress on Thursday (all day) as an alternate session to the concurrent program.  There is no charge to attend the Workshop on the Thursday - again this is limited to 30 delegates.

Workshop W1.1: Relative Analgesia or Nitrous Oxide Inhalation Sedation

PRESENTER  - 
DR JIM AULD
Jim Auld is a Senior Clinical Associate of the Faculty of Dentistry, University of Sydney and an Honorary Fellow of the Faculty of Dentistry Foundation, University of Sydney.  He has a private dental practice at Inverell, NSW. He is the author of numerous articles on dental sedation and hypnosis in dentistry.


CONTENT
This is a fully accredited full day, practical hands-on course on the use of nitrous oxide sedation  and will include a series of lectures and practical sessions on the administration of effective techniques, safety and equipment.  Dr Auld will be assisted by experienced members of ASDA to   ensure that participants receive personal tuition.


OUTCOMES:

 After attending this workshop, participants will be accredited to perform Nitrous Oxide Inhalation Sedation in Australia.

 

Workshop W2.1 Medical Emergencies in the Dental Surgery for Dentists performing Sedations

PRESENTER   -  DR KEN HARRISON
Dr Ken Harrison is a consultant anaesthetist in Sydney at Westmead and Liverpool Hospitals and is a senior clinical lecturer with Sydney University. He is also a senior retrievalist the manager of Education and Disasters with Careflight and is one of the deputy directors of the Medical Retrieval Unit of the ASNSW. He has an extensive educational portfolio across anaesthesia, trauma, simulation and disasters. He has been involved with the Graduate Diploma in Clinical Dentistry (Conscious Sedation and Pain Control) at Sydney University since 1999 and has a major role in teaching and simulation on this course.


CONTENT

Harrison and his team of highly experienced staff will deliver a practical course of medical emergencies in the dental surgeries using real scenarios and the latest equipment in medical emergency simulation.  Participants will be out into teams during this very hands-on course.  Given the increasing number of patients with significant co morbidity, this course is distinctly recommended for all Dentists.

OUTCOMES

After attending this workshop, participants will satisfy the Dental Board's of Queensland and NSW requirements for continuing accreditation

Workshop W3.1 Teamwork in Dental Sedation / Accreditation for Dental Assistants for Sedation

PRESENTER - LIJUE (RACHEL) MA

Rachel is a Clinical Lecturer in the Faculty of Dentistry at the University of Sydney and is Manager of the Centre for Resuscitation Emergency Simulation training at the Westmead Centre for Oral Health. She is a Registered Nurse (Division 1, NSW) and a Nurse Educator. Rachel has extensive experience in Intensive Care, Emergency and High Dependency nursing in Australia and New Zealand.


CONTENT

This is a fully accredited course for dental practitioners and dental assistants involved in conscious sedation in their dental practice. This half day course will be conducted by Rachel Ma, Clinical Lecturer of the Faculty of Dentistry, University of Sydney, Clinical Nurse Specialist, Sedation and Pain Control, Westmead Hospital. The topics will cover how teamwork can be built up in dental sedation settings, knowledge of basic airway management and perioperative patient monitoring, plus how to assist in medical emergencies.

OUTCOMES
Dental practitioners and dental assistants will receive accreditation in line with Queensland, Victoria, ACT and New South Wales Dental Board requirements
